As a lifelong member of the radical punk community, gender nonconforming people have been nothing new or shocking to me. They've been favorite coworkers, least favorite housemates, secret nemeses, obvious heroes, people on the scene, and short term crushes. In other words, they're just like anyone else. This song was written to shine a light on the awesome people who don't need or want binary terms put to them. It is written as a CIS person for other CIS people to say "Its not that complicated".

Originally it was a simple acoustic blues song, but local band Them Badgers latched on to it and wanted to collaborate. Turning it into a funky dance song was a surprise, but with Kadan Spooner taking on co-vocal duties and helping with the words, who was going to complain! Local A-List studio bassist Dean Shakked rounded the tune off to make a perfect jam.
